Wow! I can’t actually believe that ‘Faye Darcy Pop-Up Weddings’ is now live! I have been working towards this day for the past 8 months and I’m so excited to finally share it with you all! It has taken up so much of my time and has been a lot of hard work, but I am so passionate about my business and what I am offering you lovely people that it hasn’t even felt like work, these months have flown over! This time last year I was working with a Pop-Up Wedding company in Australia, and now I’m the first Pop-Up Wedding company in the UK!!
Ok, so, a lot of you are probably quite intrigued as to what a Pop-Up Wedding actually is. Essentially, it’s a fancy elopement: I have a collective of some wonderful North East wedding suppliers, I pick a date, book a venue and offer you 2 hour timeslots. You select from our dates and venues, your preferred time, and turn up on the day. It’s just that easy! All of the hard work is left to myself and my team of suppliers. Your pop-up package includes a civil celebrant, venue, venue styling, a bouquet and button hole, a yummy cake, a professional photographer and at least 150 digital images, all from under £2500! What’s not to love?!
If a Pop-Up event isn’t for you and there’s somewhere you would love to get married at we also offer private pop-up all-inclusive packages in which use choose your own venue and preferred date then my fabulous team come to you.
I want to get you to think outside of the box, think of places you would never think it was possible to get married at due to licensing (have a read of my confusion with venue licensing blog to clear some things up with that one) somewhere that is meaningful to you both? A local beach or park? I want to make your dream wedding a reality but without you spending a fortune for it.
Where did I get this concept from? My travels to OZ! I spent last year in Australia doing some travelling to see some more of this amazing world, experience different cultures, meet new people and be faced with more challenges. My trip fulfilled all of these and more! If I hadn’t of made the huge decision to leave my stable full time job, (which was pretty scary after working full time since leaving school!) I wouldn’t have had so many amazing experiences, opportunities or gained endless inspiration which has lead me to where I am today.
Being a qualified Wedding and Event Planner and with my passion shining through, I found it pretty easy to find work within the Industry over there. It was so amazing to see the way they do things and the different trends. I was lucky enough to be given the opportunity to work with Bree Nichols, a vibrant young celebrant who had recently started her own business doing Pop-Up Weddings. She was a huge inspiration to me and has been a great help in guiding me with my new venture. The trend was fairly new over there too, it had come from the states (obviously it screams American!) but has now taken off massively and hopefully you will fall in love with it just as much as I did!
Why do I love this concept so much? It gives couples the opportunity to have a perfect unforgettable day but without the stress and big price tag. Growing up, I always thought I would want a huge traditional wedding, the church, the big dress, every single person I know there. Yet, after travelling and having my eyes opened more I soon started to change my mind set. With the way things are in our modern world, the cost of weddings are continuing to rise yet there is a lack of funds, overwhelming outgoings and gone are the days of the Bride’s parents footing the bill! It’s so hard to get on the property ladder, people want to travel and have nice holidays, see new places, do they really want to spend £20,000 on a wedding? I know I would much rather invest that kind of money in a more practical way and having adventures around the world!
This is why I fell in love with the concept so much that I wanted to bring it home with me, to give our Millennial generation something fresh and new, an alternative to a traditional wedding but still just as beautiful, of high quality but without the huge bill and high stress levels! Don’t get me wrong, I know a pop-up wedding won’t be for everyone, but I know there are a lot of people it would appeal to. The concept is perfect for same sex marriage, vow renewals and commitment ceremonies too.
I’m all about personal, intimate and creating memories. At the end of the day, marriage is about the love and happiness the two of you share, the commitment you have to one another to spend the rest of your lives together. You don’t have to spend £15,000+ on a wedding for it to be amazing and to show that!
When I first started mentioning Pop-Up Weddings to people here in the UK no one had heard of them, yet everyone got super excited about them! I have met some amazing suppliers who are all on the same page as me and are just as excited and passionate about this as I am. My main photographer Gavin Forster was actually the first supplier I discussed my idea with last year and straight away he was on board with it. I loved his photography style, as soon as I saw his images I knew I wanted him to be involved. It’s been awesome speaking to so many talented and experience people in the industry and seeing how excited they get over my ideas and plans. The first time I told Karen from Ruby Tuesday Events her eyes just lit up! She got my vision 100% and loves giving couples something different and unique. Speaking with civil celebrants they love the idea as it totally fits with what they do by giving people something so personal and being all about the love and commitment two people share, that is what it’s all about isn’t it? Not the candy carts and photo booths?
With this being a new concept to the UK I have tried to include as much information and FAQ’s on my site as possible so that most of your questions are answered. (I hope I haven’t overwhelmed you with too much info though!) If you still can’t find your answers I’m just at the other end of the phone. Whilst I have been sneakily doing work in the background (it’s been so hard trying not to tell people about it!) Look magazine actually published an article back in January about a company doing Pop-Up Weddings in New York. It was on a much larger scale and was more of a mass wedding but the basic concept is pretty much the same. Numerous weddings in one day, costs are split between couples which allows you to have your perfect wedding but at a fraction of the cost!
